12U Hustlers Finish in Top 8 in Pittsburgh New Era Cap Classic
The 12U Frederick Hustlers traveled up the PA Turnpike to the Steel City for the 2016 New Era Cap Classic and came away with a 4-2 record and a Top Eight finish in the 22 team tournament. The Hustlers got out of the gate fast with a 35-0 thrashing of the Burning River Baseball Club (OH) where they hit seven home runs. The Boys from Frederick followed that with a 7-6 win over a solid Pittsburgh Slider ball club (PA) before losing 12-11 to the Westmoreland Wolverines (PA). In that game, the Hustlers battled back from a 12-5 deficit in the bottom of the sixth and had the tying and winning runs on second and third when the game ended. The Hustlers played their best baseball of the tournament on Saturday when they beat a strong Detroit Bees (MI) squad 10-2 to end pool play and started seeded play with an impressive 13-3 win over the talented NY Muckdogs. As happens so many times in tournament play, the Hustlers were pitted once again against the Detroit Bees with a trip to the semifinal game on the line. The Bees were better this time around as they beat the Hustlers 11-3. The Detroit Bees ended up playing in the Championship game.
The Hustlers got strong pitching performances from Brandon Bradshaw, Nick DeLisi, Marshall Mott, Tyler Prather, Matt Cunningham and Andrew McElwain throughout the tournament. Offensively, the Hustlers found their groove and pounded 15 home runs – five each by Mott and Cunningham, two by DeLisi, and one a piece for Bradshaw, McElwain and Dustin Isanogle. The scrappy Isanogle who loves playing the game led the Hustlers in hitting with a .692 average (9-13), followed by Bradshaw (.688, 11-16), Mott (.647, 11-17), Cunningham (.529, 9-17), McElwain (.467, 7-15) and DeLisi (.438, 7-16).

12U Streak Reaches Ten before Hustlers Stumble
The 12U Frederick Hustlers traveled down I270 Saturday night to beautiful Cabin John Park for a doubleheader against Bethesda Chevy-Chase. The black and gold ran their win streak to ten straight in the opener with a 5-1 win before seeing it snapped in the nightcap by a score of 4-0.
Nick DeLisi tossed four shutout innings in game one; DeLisi was magnificent allowing one BCC hit and fanning two. Brandon Bradshaw closed things out with two frames of solid relief. Meanwhile, the Hustler bats go going in the first as JT Sachar walked and scored on a Tyler Prather double. Bradshaw followed with a big triple to give the Hustlers a quick 2-0 lead. The Hustlers then turned to small ball to pick up a run in the 3rd and two more in the fifth. Prather led the way with two doubles, while Gabe Torres doubled, Matt Cunningham tripled, and Andrew McElwain singled.
Game two was a thriller even though the Hustlers came out on the wrong side. The game was a classic pitching duel as the Hustler’s Luke Schlimm and BCC’s Ethan Engel locked horns for six scoreless innings. BCC’s Engel was superb as he only allowed a JT Sachar single and Schlimm was equally impressive as he only allowed two BCC hits. The crafty, carefree lefthander struck out five and only walked two in giving his team a chance. Dustin Isanogle made a beautiful running grab in the bottom of the sixth on what looked like a certain extra base hit to send the game into extras. Two walks and an untimely error sandwiched between two scratch hits in the 7th made for a long ride back to Frederick for the Hustler faithful.
The Hustlers are back in action Thursday evening for their first game in the New Era Cap Classic in Pittsburgh, PA.

DeLisi, Schlimm Toss Gems as 12U Hustlers Capture Crab Claw Classic Championship
The Hustlers had their work cut out for them in the finale. Facing undoubtedly the best arm to date in the Delaware Diamond’s Jenkins, the Hustlers needed to be solid in all phases. Luke Schlimm took care of the pitching as the crafty lefthander was magnificent. After surrendering a leadoff double and two-out run scoring single in the top of the first, Schlimm was perfect. Mixing a live fastball with a filthy curve ball, the kid with the big smile held the Diamonds to two hits with seven strikeouts over the last five innings. Offensively, the Hustlers found a way. JT Sachar led off with a walk in the bottom of the first and Tyler Prather doubled to right center to knot the game at one a piece.
